Thailand Travel Photography Competition: FAQ's

Thailand Travel Photography Competition: FAQ's

Q What is the closing date for entries into the first stage of the competition?
A Tuesday 6th July

Q Is there an extension for overseas applicants?
A No, this competition is open to UK & Ireland residents only.

Q When will I know if I have been successful?
A All entrants that have been successful will have been contacted by us by Friday 9th July. If you have not been contacted by this time, you have been unsuccessful.

Q Will I need any specific camera equipment to be eligible for this competition?
A The four winners of the first stage of the competition travelling to Thailand on the planned itinerary will need a digital camera with a minimum of 12 (twelve) million pixels and a tripod.

Q How many images can I enter in the first stage?
A We require four different images. See the Terms and Conditions for more information.

Q How do I submit my images?
A Prints are required and should be sent to:

THAILAND THROUGH THE LENS
TOURISM AUTHORITY OF THAILAND
1ST FLOOR
17-19 COCKSPUR STREET
LONDON, SW1Y 5BL

Q Should I include anything else?
A Yes, a completed registration form signed and dated by the entrant. Download the PDF version of the registration form here. Each print must have the following written on the back:

1. Your name, telephone number and email address
2. The camera equipment used for that shot, lens, shutter speed, exposure time and aperture (metadata).

Q Can I enter more than one picture of the same subject but with a different view?
A No. You must enter four different photographs with four different subjects.

Q Can I enter the same image into another competition?
A Yes, if they are your own images. However, should you be successful and take part in the Thailand Photography trip, any images taken during this trip cannot be used until the Thailand photography competition has ended.

Q Can I get my images back after the competition?
A Your first entries will be supplied from your own prints or prints from transparencies. Therefore there is no need for us to return these as you will still have the original files/slides. For the successful entrants who go to Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will retain ALL digital photography from that trip as will the individual entrant/photographer.

Digital camera equipment ONLY can be used on the trip.

Q What images do you not accept?
A Sandwich shots, double exposures, photographs which consist of more than one image in any way and images that have been manipulated outside of the rules. The competition office cannot give advice on which images you should enter.

Q What forms of manipulation are acceptable and why?
A Our aim is that you achieve a true representation of a natural form, behaviour or phenomenon. Therefore digital enhancement is only acceptable if within certain parameters such as cleaning work, levels, curves, colour, saturation and contrast work. This kind of manipulation is comparable to traditional film processing techniques.

Q Can I send in scans?
A No, only prints.

Q Can I crop my images?
A Yes, framing is important.

Q Can I enter any format?
A Entries must be prints only - taken within the five years immediately prior to the closing date.

Q Can I send in black & white prints?
A We have included b&w to allow photographers to express themselves in this medium should they wish to do so. We allow prints only.
